Country Overview

Cuba is the largest country in the Carribean, located south of Florida between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. With a total land area of 110,860 sq km, this island is slightly smaller than Pennsylvania.

Government type is a communist state with the capital in Havana, where head of state and Cuban Commmunist Party (CCP) leader Fidel Castro Ruz, the National Assembly, Council of Ministers and Council of State reside.

Population is 11.3 million with a 0.6% rate of natural increase.

Language spoken is Spanish.

Economy is largely state-run and considered less developed. Numerous reforms have been employed in recent years in attempt to develop, with some success. GDP per capita is approximately US$1,700, with 25% of the workforce in agriculture, 24% in industry, and 54% in services.
